Our Founder, Hayden Gilbert, is fortunate to have made many friends over the course of his career. Brilliant friends who he’s worked with directly at well-known ad agencies and global corporations. And many more friends who worked for him at some point along the way. Basically, the best of the best. These are the type of people who apply to be in THE48. But THE48 can only have 48 people per role. It’s a numbers game.

Yes! You can absolutely be in THE48, but only if you are one of the 48 most talented freelancers in the country. Simply apply on the site and we will get back to you with more details on how to join. There is no fee to join, but we can only take 48 people per skill set (ie 48 Writers, 48 Designers, etc.)

We are an entirely remote operation. So the answer is anywhere in the contiguous 48 states of the United States of America. Please understand, we do not have anything against the states of Alaska and Hawaii. It’s more of a time zone thing than anything else. No offense to our talented Alaskan and Hawaiian brethren. We know who you are, and wish you the best.
THE48 is a curated community of talent—made up of the best 48 Writers, Art Directors, Designers, Account Managers, Producers, and Strategists in the country. If you can think of an agency or in-house agency role, we can find people who specialize in said role in about 48 hours. Because short timelines don’t allow for wrong hires.
SHELTR is our parent company, which specializes in building full-scale agency teams for their clients. THE48 is a subsidiary of SHELTR, and exists to help clients find top-tier freelance talent for short-term and long-term contract or project work.
When to Tap THE48
Sometimes it’s hard to navigate the sea of Freelance talent. And when you need the “right” person right now, your job becomes even more difficult. Our Founder, Hayden Gilbert, knows the best freelance talent in the advertising industry. Hayden understands how important is to get the job done correctly, and knows how to remove some of the risk factors. Plus, he can usually find you the right person for the job in 48 hours or less. It’s true. Ask around.
We are fortunate to have access to the best freelance Creative teams in the contiguous 48 states. Whichever type of Creative team you’re looking for, we can find them fast. And if for some odd reason we can’t find them in THE48, we’ll put out an APB to our larger LinkedIn network until we track down a team that fits the description.
Sometimes you know who you’re looking for but that person is nearly impossible to find. People often refer to this person as a “unicorn” even though the person bears no physical resemblance to the mythical creature. A “unicorn” could be a really great Strategist who is also a good Writer, or a strong Designer who can also build a site. These “unicorns” do exist, but let’s be realistic. Finding one person who does ten different things well does not exist.

From Our Founder, Hayden.
In 2018, after spending 20+ years as a Writer and Creative Director at various ad agencies and as an Executive Creative Director leading in-house creative teams, I started a more flexible agency model called SHELTR. Last year, we launched a new subsidiary called THE48–our curated community of the best freelancers in America.
As a former Creative Director, I know the difference between good and great. I’ve worked with some of the most talented people in advertising & marketing and now, I get to connect our clients with those very same people. People who I know personally, who have great character and will do whatever it takes to help our clients find a solution.
Relationships are what matter most to me in life. Which is why I work hard to make sure the right people get matched with our clients. In six years, we’ve got a track record of 100%. Which means all of our clients (and freelancers) are happy. One of my favorite quotes from The Godfather sums it up best, “I’m a business man. Blood is a big expense.”
